You guys know I love drawing badasses, swords and, most importantly, animals, right? Well I got the chance to draw all my favourite things at once for this month’s issue of Worlds Without Master, a pdf magazine run by Epidiah Ravachol. It’s a magazine with its bloody, still-beating heart in the right place: firmly in the worlds of sword and sorcery. Above is the first of two illustrations I got to produce for the short story, “One Winter’s Due”. A tale of revenge, oaths and the wild north, I can recommend the issue on it alone!
If swords, sorcery, oaths and ill omens are up your alley, you might want to check out the issue! You can grab a copy through Dig a Thousand Holes Publishing for $3.99 right here, or go support Epidiah in his quest to publish the next at Patreon.
Reblogging this here as it feels at LEAST as barbaric as this comic, and might be of interest to you folks!
Happy holiday adventures everyone!
Important note: holiday shipping from my personal store is available until Friday December 6th! To further the holiday spirit, I’ve instituted a very important discount called The True Meaning of Crom - that means you can go to my shop, right here, this one, and grab whatever you want (books? pdfs? postcards? posters? originals?) at 20% off! The promo code is HOLIDAYCROMULENCE. You should probably check it out. Just in case.
Thanks to everyone who grabbed an original last week! That’s a third of my watercolours already claimed, you’re all blowing my mind. BLOWING MY MIND, BY CROM!
Tis the shopping season! And I have two important pieces of news:
FIRSTLY! Until Sunday Nov 17th at Midnight PST I can offer you free shipping in my Society 6 Store! Mugs, phone cases, totes, shirts, and of course fine art prints, all available with free shipping via this link right here.
SECONDLY! I’ve updated my bigcartel and am now offering you guys the original watercolour comics, AND the limited edition poster, as well as the usual stock of books and zines and postcards and pdfs. And the most important piece of news there is, if you want these things to arrive before December 24th, for whatever reason, you need to order by December 6th. All orders will then go to the post office on the 9th and should be at their destinations on or before the 23rd, according to Canada Post. If you live in Australia or somewhere equally far from Canada it wouldn’t hurt to order early.
Thanks again to everyone who’s supported me and my work, I’m so excited to share all of these things with you and I’m so touched by everyone who buys things, emails me, leaves asks, retumbls or likes my stuff - it all makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside and eggs me on to more and more.
You all are the BEST, by Crom!
ceadie2 asked: I would possibly be interested in having an original. Have you thought about how you would sell them? I'm sure you could make a nice profit on eBay.
Oh man, thanks so much!
I’ve thought about it, and I’ve decided to sell them through my big cartel store. I went to the post office, I got all the appropriate shipping arrangements organized, I photographed them, and just listed them tonight!
With 14 lovingly painted colour comics now dodging dust in my flat file, I am considering selling my colour comic originals. They are drawn on Canson Manga Art Board, which is 10” x 14.25”, and they are all consistently 10” x 7” in area on the page. They are all inked using archival Micron ink and painted using Windsor & Newton Cotman Watercolours. Some have little test swatches or lettering on the edges, and all are initialled and dated in one of the bottom corners. I would ship them rolled with a piece of craft paper, I’m looking into the exact cost today. Would anyone be interested?
I’m excited and a little flustered to be able to offer you guys a pretty great selection of By Crom! prints and products thanks to Society 6! I’ve been using them for my other illustration work for almost a year now, and have consistently been thrilled with their quality. With the holidays approaching, it seemed like time to sit down and figure out how By Crom! might work on there.
I’ve only put up two comics so far, two of my favourites, but I’m excited to offer whichever comics you’re most interested in seeing made available! If you want to reply here or drop me a line in my ask box with your thoughts and wishes that would be amazing.
I’m also still mulling over how I might make a By Crom! tshirt design, as I didn’t feel satisfied just putting the comic on a shirt. Do you have any suggestions or requests?
wornoldhat asked: Hi there! I'm hoping to buy the book online and was wondering if getting it signed was an option? If not, that's totally fine, was just wondering. :)
I’d be delighted to sign anything I sell in the bigcartel store! Just drop me a line in the extra info box in Paypal’s checkout, and let me know if you want it made out to anyone in particular!
HOLY CRAP. I HAVE NO WORDS. HOW ARE YOU ALL SO AWESOME?
Torontonians! I’m part of three awesome things in the next month or so:
- WordPlay, put on by the Hand Eye Society
- Bit Bazaar, hosted at Bento Miso
- The Toronto Indie Arts Market’s Small Press and Literary Festival
I will have books on hand, I will be paneling at WordPlay, and I will be being as cromulent as humanly possible at all times. See you there?
Hello barbari-fans! I’m between a rock and a deadline today so no comic this week, but here’s a cromulent pinup from the book to help you summon Conan in your own lives!
Thanks for your patience! See you next week!
Thanks SO VERY MUCH to everyone who came out to Canzine, you guys make me feel like a rock star! And to everyone who I met there, welcome, you guys must also be awesome!
Two awesome updates: firstly, By Crom! has a new home over on WealdComics.com - all the archives are up there now! If you prefer your comics in a tidy wordpress RSS that is the place to go. I’ll always crosspost here, so don’t fret, but there’s a second option!
Secondly, I’m doing a little giveaway for the launch of WealdComics.com - until Friday at midnight EST you can get a PDF of my sketchbook of Weald development work right here!
So yes, thanks again to everyone who came by for books and postcards and Conan shop talk, you warm my barbaric heart!
Hello my cromulent companions, boy do I have news for you!
I don’t use this blog to push my other projects often so I won’t barrage you (this is a Conan-focused place, after all) but I wanted to make sure you heard about the website I just launched.
Weald Comics is a collective site where my friends and I are hosting our own comics. Right now myself and Kris Sayer (a veritable viking expert, among other skills) are running two comics each: she’s posting Nameless and Corpse Door, and I’m cross-posting By Crom! (for posterity, as Tumblr is a bit messy at times) and my newest endeavour, Orin and the Dead Man’s Sword.
I’d be overjoyed if you took a moment to check out these stories and let me know what you thought, but don’t worry - By Crom! will still be posting here weekly - it will now simply also be posting directly to Weald as well! So yeah, what do you guys think?
